Welcome to Year 6 with Miss Vernon and Mrs Anderton!

Miss Vernon and Mrs Anderton are very excited to welcome the new Year 6 class. The class have returned to Nonsuch with great enthusiasm and dedication to their learning.

Year 6 is very important as we are getting ourselves ready for secondary school. We are also the oldest children in the school and we have lots of responsibilities, including Sports Leaders and being part of the Student Leadership Team. Some of us are also Librarians, Eco Warriors, Reading Ambassadors and School Councillors, as well as being Head Boy and Girl!

Another important part of Year 6 is SATs, which will happen in May. Throughout the year, we will be working hard to do as well as we can. During the year, we will work hard to improve our skills in reading, writing, maths and SPAG, but we will also be doing some very exciting topic work!

We also get the opportunity to go on a residential trip and stage an end of year production towards the end of the academic year, as well as look back on our memories at Nonsuch Primary School!

Homework

Reading a variety of books is very important and in Year 6 we prioritise reading. Children have a set book which they will read, alongside a book from either the library of Miss Vernon's reading corner to read freely. When children have become fluent readers, they can pick and choose challenging books to advance their own skills.

We also encourage the use of Timetable Rockstars and SpellingShed, two websites where the children can practise their maths and spelling skills with exciting games and competitions! Miss Vernon and Miss Fleetwood monitor how well the children are progressing on these platforms, so please encourage your child to spend some time on this excellent resource.

P.E is on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child comes into school in their PE kits on these days.

Look out for our activities on Twitter as we regularly update this.
