Welcome to Year 6 with Miss Vernon and Mrs Sanders!
Year 6 is very important as we are getting ourselves ready for secondary school. We are also the oldest children in the school and we have lots of responsibilities, including Sports Leaders and being part of the Student Leadership Team. Some of us are also Librarians,Eco Warriors, School Councillors, as well as being Head Boy and Girl!
Another important part of Year 6 is SATs, which will happen in May. We are working extremely hard to do as well as we can. During the year, we will work hard to improve our skills in reading, writing, maths and SPAG, but we will also be doing some very exciting topic work!
We also get a chance to go on residential and to stage an end of year production, as well as look back on our memories at Nonsuch Primary School!
Homework is set on a Friday and needs to be returned by the following Wednesday. The majority of our homework is English and maths that links to our current topic.
Reading a variety of books is very important and in Year 6 we prioritise reading. Children have a set stage book which they will read, alongside a library book to read freely. When children have become fluent readers, they can pick and choose challenging books to advance their own skills.
We also encourage the use of Timetable Rockstars, a website where the children can create their own avatar and practise their timetables! Miss Vernon and Mrs Sanders monitor how well the children are progressing in their timetables, so please encourage your child to spend some time on this excellent resource.
P.E is on a Monday and Friday.
Look out for our activities on Twitter as we regularly update this.
