Gardening and Outdoor Learning Club

This club aims to provide all children with the opportunity to develop a greater knowledge and understanding of nature through a range of practical hands on activities that might not normally be explored at home or school.

It is hoped that it will provide opportunities for pupils to develop their confidence, team work skills and speaking and listening skills with their peers through the achievement of specific awards.

These are some of theactivities:

  1. Children painting or drawing flowers from observation or photographs.
  2. Plant survey of plants in the school grounds.
  3. Labeling parts of a plant or flower.
  4. Making bird seed feeders and write instructions of how made.
  5. Using recycled juice cartons or wood to make bird houses.
  6. Making animal homes e.g bee, hedgehog homes and mini-beast hotel.
  7. Bird watching session using an identification key, making pictograms of survey or drawings of birds seen.
  8. Making a garden trail by decorating wooden signs and producing fact boards or laminated fact pages about different birds and woodland animals for the school outdoor learning area
  9. Children creating a short video clip on ipad presenting information and pictures about why we should look after wildlife and how we can help look after it at home or in school.
  10. Going pond dipping in school pond and identifying findings with identification key.
  11. Making stepping stones with an animal or bird picture in centre.
  12. Making A3 animal pictures for display out of natural and recycled resources.
  13. Making a display of photos and drawings etc of activities done.
  14. Planting seeds or plants.
