Eco-Warriors

ECO - WARRIORS.

Mr Kelly

The Eco-Warriors have been working hard behind the scenes this term!

They have been busy creating posters in order to let the school know our Eco target for this term.

The Warriors have decided to concentrate on reducing the amount of electricity spent at school in order to reduce our Carbon footprint.

Along with the posters, each Eco-Warrior has set a task off turning off unused lights, monitors and projectors when they see them.

Watch this space! At the end of November, we will be attempting a electricity-free day!

Here are our wonderful Eco-Warriors!

As you can see, many lessons were taught today!

In Assembly, we did have to have one light on as it was getting very, very dark!

Switch Off Fortnight

 20th November – 3rd December 2017!

Nonsuch Primary School are supporting Switch off Fortnight. With our Eco-Warriors leading the way, we are aiming to educate the children at school about how important it is to save electricity and reduce the carbon footprint.

On the 29th November, Nonsuch Primary School went without electricity in class for an entire day. Prior to this, our Eco-Warriors held a Class Assembly, where they discussed how the children thought Electricty Free Day would go. Along with this, many ideas of how we could reduce our carbon foot print and this idea excited not only our Warriors, but the whole school.

From the beginning of the day to the end, Reception class through to Year 6 worked tirelessly in and out of their classes to continue the day as normal. It was no ordinary day, however, as the lights were out and their computers used NOT at all!

Each class worked on a variety of topics, such as English, Maths, Music, P.E. and science and did this without the use of any electricity aiding them.

Our aim is to complete this switch-off fortnight and continue to reduce our carbon footprint by turning off any unused lights and screens throughout the year to make our school continue to become an environmentally friendly school.

At the end of the day, Our Eco-Warriors held an Assembly to see how the school thought it went.

They asked some very posing questions and received some very interesting answers:

Eco-Warrior: “How did it go today?”

Year 1: It was fun because it was different.

Eco-Warrior: “Did it make a difference to your learning?”

Year 3: I think it was calmer as all the lights were off.

Eco-Warrior: “Why did we do an electricity-free day?”

Year 4: We did an electricity free day to save money and to reduce waste.

Eco-Warrior: What are you now going to do in school in the future?

Year 6: “ I’m going to turn off any lights around the school that aren’t being used and screens and monitors”

Eco-Warrior: Are you going to try and do anything different at home?

Year 2: “I’m going to turn off the lights!”

What’s next for our Warriors I wonder?
